Fascinating map. I had no idea that Wyo. or Mont. had earthquakes in the past few days. I know some are often so small that they barely register. It's kind of strange cause I've read that there is only one state that has never had an earthquake and that's supposed to be So. Dak. But in the late 70s we did have one~couldn't really feel it, but it was supposed to have cracked the walls in a lot of homes.
The earthquakes in Wyoming are in Yellowstone. Around old Faithful. Which happens to be the biggest volcano in the US. It's what's called a Super Volcano. It's almost 200 miles across.
Southern Alaska in 1964 suffered the second most powerful earthquake ever measured, about 9.4. (Most powerful ever measured were two earthquakes in southern Chile in 1960 measuring about 9.6 that occurred two days in a row). The Aleutians get strong earthquakes more often than almost any place on earth. Since almost nobody lives there, most of those quakes don't make the news unless they are strong enough to set off a Tsunami alert across the northern Pacific.

Yes, and I've even seen a documentary about Old Faithful supposedly doing a big blow up and causing devastation way over here. Not sure if that's even possible, but someone must've thought so.
Recycled, that's interesting. Throughout time I have seen a couple of sites that showed there's a lot of little earthquake activity going on every day, but I didn't realize that Alaska had a problem like that. The only state that is normally mentioned is Cali.
Here's a site to behold. haha I was surprised at the number of earthquakes, even in places you wouldn't expect.
Yeah I've seen this map and was surprised too. Especially around Missouri/Tenn. The New Madrid fault is supposed to be about to go pretty soon too isnt it?

The reason CA. is so often mentioned regarding earthquakes is because of the high population. When earthquakes happen there it often causes a lot of destruction and loss of life. But I recently watched a show about that big earthquake in Alaska and they showed how the city of Anchorage had rebuilt....now if they had that same earthquake there would be a whole lot more destruction and loss of life there too!
