We had that from 2007-2012, as well as very cold winters in 08/09, 09/10 and 10/11.

In Nice, the provisional averages are 16/6°C (60/43°F). 86 hours so far!
Nice is living up to its name this month.

We've received over an inch of rain today. This winter is becoming the winter of cold rain and fog.

The one exception is the previous cold snap, where ice formed on ponds from Thursday through Sunday. It didn't get more than 1/2" thick, though.

How many warm summers did you have before 2007-2012?

From 07 thru to 2012 London Heathrow was at or above avg on the annual mean 4 out of 6 years.

Since 1981, the good summers were 1983, 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2003, 2006. An equal number of shockers in that time frame as well, especially 85, 86, 87, 88, 93, 98 and 2000.

Talking about terrible winter weather, Lerwick is on 1.7 hours of sunshine after 12 days this month with an absolute low of 0.7C 0.6 hours of that sun must have happened today as well, since they were only on 1.1 when I looked this morning.

Leeming is on 26.7 hours after 12 days, which is pretty much half the monthly average a bit short of halfway through the month. I'm expecting another relatively big total at the end of the month.

Only one dry day in 2015 so far in Bingley though, and just two frosts and two maxima slightly below average. The warmest and fourth-warmest January temperatures on record have both happened so far this month. It hasn't been cold at all, but here's the persistence of the wind and rain we've had in the past six days, with more to come for the rest of this week:

7th Jan: top gust 80 km/h, rain 1.2 mm
8th Jan: top gust 65 km/h, rain 6.6 mm
9th Jan: top gust 89 km/h, rain 12 mm
10th Jan: top gust 82 km/h, rain 7 mm
11th Jan: top gust 80 km/h, rain 6 mm
12th Jan: top gust 95 km/h, rain 13 mm
