Possible nine days sounds like an exaggeration.

Here's a forecast from the NWS:

National Weather Service

83 F Wednesday
85 F Thursday
84 F Friday

The last time a subzero temp was recorded at my local weather station (KISP) was 1988. The record low for February is 1F.

Hence (at this point) I'm far more skeptical than excited about this upcoming Friday:

This air is no joke and still looking intense since being shown a week ago
NWS is close at 3°.

Now's the time to save some screen shots of different venues forecasts. lol

It's so hard to forecast a possible extreme since we haven't had it happen much PLUS things can still change.

It's been since 1994 since NYC had a sub zero temp

Last time NYC had a max of 5F or colder this late was in 1987

I want to pull the GFS for a location. Someone pick a spot! I'll take the first 2.

GFS18z Max temps next Sunday. All I see is 80°F in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Rest looks normal. No?

Here are some of the coldest days in my area since 2000. I wonder if this Friday will compare, or if we'll get ripped off:

Jan 7, 2014 (daytime temp only hit 11F)
Jan 4, 2014 (morning low of 0F: lowest in decades)
Jan 24, 2011 (less impressive on LI, but places in upstate NY hit -40 on this date; Brookhaven Airport set an all-time record low of -4F)
Jan 17, 2009 (similar)
Jan 15, 2004 (lowest wind chill ever: -22F)

Notice that the distribution of these extreme days is centered around mid January, so if this thing manifests it would be a bit of an outlier. This is also one reason why I'm somewhat doubtful about any subzero readings (except at KFOK).

Do you need a station code or would a zip code work?

Cold even in the Baleares islands
0ºC in Palma de Mallorca.
Also, just 3ºC in Sagres, the mildest Portuguese location, in the extreme southwest, average low in February is 10ºC

not really, since the forecasts usually miss by being cooler, its a high possibility.

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA9222:1:US

above is the forecast for my suburb (actually El Monte Airport, which is cooler) and it calls for 6 days of 80s in a row, with a 79 F and 78 F, tomorow and tuesday, so 9 days in the next 10 days is a high possibility for El monte Airport, even higher here.

Downtown LA as well.

(also the forecast cooled a bit from the morning, but abviously its subject to change, if either cooler or warmer we will see)

USC forecast calls for 4 80s in a row, followed by two 79 F days.
