"Almost 300 snow patches remain in Highland mountains despite the warm weather the region has enjoyed this summer.
So far, 265 patches of snow have been reported following this year’s summer snow survey and more reports are expected to come in over the next few days.
The figures for this year are the highest since the survey began seven years ago – the number usually being somewhere between 30 and 50 – and many are larger and deeper than those recorded in previous years."

There are some amazing snow tunnels to be found in highlands.

the largest of them is a 130 foot near rannoch moor

Thats so cool, snow patches in summer! The Highlands must have had a great year then, witch is surprising considering winter was mild and Scotland had a view warm days in July! So all that record rain in winter must have made a decent skiing season!

Scotland wasn't as warm during June & July as England (in terms of being above average) & even in the record breaking summer of 2003 there were still snow patches left... The article says itself that they have only been monitoring this for SEVEN years, so being at an "all time high" doesn't really mean much does it...

Haha, how can the say "all time high" when it's only been monitored for 7 years!

Exactly, it's a bit like me saying I have just recorded the highest ever temperature in St Paul's Bay, when I have only been keeping records since last December lol...

Cool photos.

Quite the opposite to here, where summer snow patches have been absent for 4-5 years. They haven't been making it past late January. The way it's going this winter, there won't be any by Christmas.

VERY cool! Glad they are keeping track and hope they continue.

Just imagine if we had actual records of everything out there including snow patches on each mountain.

Oh the things we just don't know.

August 2015. See link for story and pics. Some awesome stuff.

A cold summer in Scotland has led to ice and snow which still hasn't melted forming a network of icy tunnels and caves clinging to the edge of mountains.

A range of factors has seen a growing number of snow patches remaining since 2007, but this summer there are more than have been seen for 20 years.
