Don't forget Rochester. They, along with Buffalo and Syracuse, seem to take turns with having the snowiest winters.

Chicago didn't become famous as the Windy City because of actual wind. It was New York politicians complaining about Chicagoans bragging after they got the World Fair in 1893.
New York, Dallas, etc. etc. are actually more windy than Chicago on average. Wind speed in Chicago is about in the middle as far as cities around the country. Certainly not exceptional.

Amen. Chicago's average wind speed, like you said, isnt anything extraordinary.

Minneapolis/St. Paul easily. It's about 200 miles to the north in latitude of Chicago. Plus Chicago generally does not suffer from so-called lake effect snow since they are west of Lake Michigan.

This list is pretty much spot-on. You can throw in:
-Fargo, ND (might not be big enough to qualify, but it is COLD)
-Omaha, NE
-Des Moines, IA

It has never snowed IN DENVER in July or August. I have seen snow in the mtns in those months, and snow in Louiville in June twice in 27 yrs here.

Agreed. i'm also willing to add Duluth as well. and somebody mentioned Rochester earlier as well...definitely agree, as well as Burlington and Montpelier. Any big city in New England or Upstate New York would get my vote.

Minneapolis was rated the coldest city in America, so there's your answer.

1. Grand Forks, ND
2. Minneapolis, MN

This is temperature-wise by the way.
