I'm by no means even so much as an amateur meteorologist, however I do pay close attention to the weather for business reasons, and I've got a rudimentary understanding of the NAO, AO, EPO, etc, particularly with their relation to winter weather. I've been following this stuff for roughly the last 10-12 years, and I've got to say that I've never seen the overall weather pattern over the US behave in the manner that it has been for so long.

Over the past year, the majority of the NOAA outlook maps that I've viewed have all painted the same basic picture: Warm & dry along the west coast, very warm in Alaska, and colder than average nearly everywhere else, especially east of the Mississippi river. What is causing this? The telleconnections have varied somewhat substantially since the "Polar Vortex" months of last winter, but the jet stream seems to want to snap right back into that same position any chance it can get. Am I missing something, and can we all look forward to a repeat of last winter's brutality in the eastern US in these upcoming months?
