They are both nice, but I prefer San Francisco. Mostly because of less rain. And I like cool, foggy weather

San Francisco, I enjoy the cool weather with a coastal breeze and the fog that rolls into the city at times. Sydney seems good but San Francisco seems more comfortable to me unless you hate the chilly nights(). San Francisco isn't really warm but it's hardly cold, if you dress appropriately it can be extremely comfortable especially when you are walking in the city and climbing those damned hills. It's not like your walking around in some tundra people, damn. Every time I've been it was chilly but nowhere near being unreasonable.

Both are decent but San Francisco for me, bereft of those warm summer nights that are pretty common in Sydney.

Totally agree. But Sydney itself wins this competition. Like you, I would go with San Jose over Sydney by a hair.

San Francisco isn't that dry, especially for Californian standards.

In an overall sense, San Francisco is still really dry. Californian standards are not really relevant when it comes to personal preferences.

What's more, it's essentially rainless throughout the summer. If you call that summer.

San Francisco is a D. (but nearby microclimates get a C and some even go into the B range)

Sydney is an A+.

BTW, thunderstorms are so rare in San Francisco that many of their local residents called 911 when they heard thunder for the first time.

Weather Battle: San Francisco vs Miami

Yeah, the temperature are OK in summer but far too dry. I like cool summers but I like storms and rain as well. My ideal summer is cool with a lot of frontal storms moving through.

I highly doubt that they'd call 911 just because of a thunderstorm even if it's rare, I'm sure many people in San Francisco are aware of them and are aware that they occur in other climates. Just like if we got some snowflakes here, people wouldn't call 911 because they're aware what snow is, even if it rarely happens here.
