Bega. I grew up in the Virginia Beach area and the summer weather is a bit too much at times.

Virginia Beach for the snow in winter, although Bega has much cooler summers.

A lot of people like four seasonal weather in here. VB provides hot summers and cool, slightly snowy winters. Folks dig that kinda thing.

Bega's winters are a little too warm. How common are decidous plants there?

Otherwise Bega looks great.

This is a good one. Bega is more comfortable but I like VB's winter way better. Experience weather I like is more important than not experiencing weather I hate. I choose VB.

Bega for me.

Winters are perfect, summer a little coolish, but winter does it for me. Also, they probably only go at most about 5-10F below their avg low July temp for an extreme winter min temp so lots more subtropical vegetation there than VB.

The subtropical climates in the US like VB are so flawed due to the crazy winter extreme negative anomalies that prevent any decent subtropical gardening.

Places in the far deep southeast of the US cannot grow Queen Palms and look at this streetview at 36 S latitude. Most seriously flawed humid subtropical climates on earth are in the southeastern US.

Incidentally, I can't seem to find any sabal palms there, despite having a so-called "humid" subtropical climate.

the winters are too cold for them. they are around, planted by people of course, and sometimes you see them wrapped in anticipation of the coming winter. they sometimes die. they don't belong in Virginia Beach, they are there simply for tourism.

No they aren't, VB is a borderline zone 8a/8b.
