Wait; what was the answer to your first question (Find a microclimate in Southern California that has an average high above 70 F AND an average low above 50 F during its coldest month AND an average high over 85 F in its warmest month.)? I couldn't find this, although I was a bit lazy - I didn't actually search all of the microclimates of LA and SD on NOWDATA.
Also I can't find the answer to your second question (the closest I could find was SD intl airport, which is not even close). Is it in the US or Mexico? Maybe a bit closer to the equator at high elevation?
1. Find a place which has record highs above 45 C (113 F) for at least 3 months out of the year and also has record lows below -15 C (5 F) for at least three months out of the year.
2. Find a place in Africa which has average highs above 100 F (38 C) for exactly six months out of the year.
3. Find a place which has record highs above 120 F (49 C) for at least five months out of the year (Dallol doesn't count).
4. Find a place that has a month with an average high above 30 C (86 F) and a (different) month with an average low below -15 C (5 F).
5. Find a place with a humid subtropical climate that gets less than 1100 hours of sunlight annually (on average).
6. Find a place which has record highs above 100 F (38 C) for at least three months, and which also records more than 100 inches (314 cm) of snow per year (on average).
7. Find a place which has record highs above 100 F (38 C) for at least three months out of the year and also has record lows below -45 F (-43 C) for at least three months out of the year.
Find a microclimate in Southern California that has an average high above 70 F AND an average low above 50 F during its coldest month AND an average high over 85 F in its warmest month. It most all be at one single weather station and not piecemealing each feature from different weather stations.
This is a very tough one. Does it exist?
With an average high of 85 F in the summer, we are looking at a spot away from the immediate coast. With a high above 70 F in the coldest month, we are looking at a place at sea level, and not too close to the ocean.
The sticking point is a low above 50 degrees in the coldest month. I would guess that would have to be closer to the coast. It's hard picturing a spot too far inland, away from the moderating effect of the ocean, having a low above 50 degrees. But, also not too close to the coast, as the immediate coastal areas tend to be a little colder at night than those a little more inland (and wouldn't be at 70 degrees during the coldest month, anyways). But, maybe there is a pocket somewhere.
So, we are looking for a spot that is part of the coastal plain, but not on the immediate coast, at sea level. Probably not in a valley (where cold air sinks) or too sheltered from the moderating ocean. Someone mentioned Anaheim above, which hits that sweet spot, but missed on low above 50.
I'll be honest. If there is a place in Southern California that has a low above 50 in the coldest month (probably December, for overnight lows), that would be a surprise to me.
Oh whoops, I forgot to exclude Death Valley as well. I meant to exclude all of the popular "obvious" examples. Mecca, Saudi Arabia would've also worked.
Find a climate north of 40°N, with July's record high having the coolest of the climate's monthly record highs.
