I liked Toronto's climate but the winter was a tad long for me, especially towards the end. I find spring to be the weak link in those climates. It seems to last like 3 weeks at most.

Turin is the best European climate west of 8°E. I gave it a B- as I was feeling generous. The averages aren't that bad, but it's way too stable. The records, both high and low, are paltry compared to nearby Lyon, despite being more continental. I blame the Alps and the further distance from Spain for that.

Anglicisation is a mark of respect. All these cities are important enough to have their own English name. Does Civitavecchia have an English name? No, because nobody cares about it. Those names are the same in French btw: Rome, Florence, Naples, Turin... Though Venice becomes Venise.

French is so close to Italian, so no need for that really. But why is Nice known in Finnish by the Italian name, Nizza? I hardly think it was a important city for us.

In German again the French "frenchisided" most names. Aix-la-Chapelle, Fribourg, Cologne...

BTW, the Viking regions in France are known here as Normandia and Bretanje (now Bretagne i correct Finnish), though we weren't even Vikings. And Île-de-France was "Ranskan saari", litrally meaning what it is. And Provense was naturally your région.

I don't know. Germans also use the Italian name, but the English use the French one. And the Spanish say "Niza". I guess Nice is a more important city than you barbarians care to admit.

True. Even obscure, faraway cities like Regensburg or Jena or have their own French name. Otoh I can't think of any Finnish city whose name differs between Finish and French.

None of our cities were important in Hanseatic times. Even the Danes call Helsinki by its Finnish name and not Helsingfors, as the Swedes and Norwegians do. And in Finnish too, only Pariisi, has a given name. Dunno why Nizza was given one. More easy to pronounce, maybe?

Pronouncing "Nice" in Finnish would be "niisse", and that would sound just wrong.

I like Bois-le-Duc for the Dutch city of s'-Hertogenbosch!
