The snow also stays on the ground for a least a week in Berlin. Unlike Vancouver or NYC were it melts after a few days.

I know the snow in NYC has stuck for over a week but Is it normal for NYC to have snow stick for over a week? In Vancouver in the snow sticks only for 4-5 days.
Europe is warmer for its latitude but it is much farther north than North America.
Vancouver 49N and London 51N have similar climates. Also the East Coast is colder than the West Coast for its laditude.
Berlin and NYC are about the same temperature in winter but NYC is 40N and Berlin is 52N. Although NYC is hot in summer while Berlin summers are much colder.
And Sofia, Bulgaria is at 42 N and has cold and snowy winters too. The whole Europe is not that mild for its latitude. There are just some places especially in West and North West that are mild for the latitude due to Gulf Stream. That's all. In terms of snow amount yes places in USA are snowier by far but not in terms of cold.
And Bitola in FYROM (and near Bitola is the city of Florina in Greece they have the same climate and weather the distance is not more than 15 km between the 2) has cold and snowy winters. The city also hit -30 C. It is not mild.

It's cold for Greece, but also, Florina is at a higher elevation, about 660m. Though you are right, Eastern Europe can get brutally cold, even if they don't get blizzards like we get

Yes I was trying to say this. West Europe is mild. In East we can get very cold weather.

Exactly! Russian winters! Of the coldest. Generally I think in Europe the worst cold is in Russia and in Balkans. And of course in North Scandinavia.
