It's not a heat wave.
Just a period of above-average temperatures in winter. If it was July, the title would be more appropriate.

Well, we recorded the highest temp along with Duarte of 95 F today. Tomorow is supposed to be warmer by a bit, and Friday being the warmest. Maybe a 100 F isn't so far fetched as I thought, maybe ABrandNewWorld will be right.

That's interesting and may be a testament to the growing UHI around McCarran, which is ranked as one of the stations with the strongest UHI in the U.S. For D.C., during July and August, all but 54 out of 62 days (4 in each month) have tied or reset their record warm minima during the 1980s or later. That is hardly the case with the winter months, when the river influence at DCA may work to spoil warm minima records, the most recent example being 22 Dec 2013 when winds off the Potomac briefly lowered the temp to 57F shortly before 20:00 while Dulles and BWI stayed above 60F the whole day.

On the slopes of Mt. Rainier, above freezing at 5100 feet. Current snow depth is 46 inches at Paradise (5100 feet), in 2013 at the same date 129 inches, and only four days the whole month were above freezing.
