what is the most memorable cold wave that you remember?
the most memorable for me was in late january 2003, when i lived in south florida the temp got down to 29, and our freinds who live in a VERY outlying area in north georgia got down to -2, and their well froze up.

June 2006 - towns across the northeastern inland plains of Victoria recorded temps as low as 19ºF, with upto 25 nights in some of those towns during the June-Aug winter period falling below 32ºF.

Must have been 1995 or so as my son was still in elementary school, a full week in Cleveland, Ohio where the daily "high" temperature did not get above -20F. Typically, yes, Cleveland is cold in the winter. But that many consecutive days that cold is unusual. The kids were off school all week.
Needless to say I now live in Phoenix....

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan in I think the winter of 1980. Cold for weeks. One day at noon we were downtown for lunch from School and it was 10 above. Nobody had jackets on at all it felt so warm, that morning it had been -30 with a very strong wind. We went weeks with it never getting close to 0 during the daytime and WAY below during the nights.

I remember the storm of 1978 in Massachussetts. It was horrible and we were out of school for a whole week. They declared a state of emergency for three of the area states. It was a nightmare on the coast and more snow then I have ever seen in my life.

in central Minnesota it was 1983, from December 17-December 28.
Lows around -35 below, daytime highs around -10 below . day after day after day--with strong Nort West winds.
On December 24,a full week into it, things were breaking and freezing on my dairy farm that hadn't the past week.
At 2 in the afternoon on Christmas Eve, the radio said the windchill was -65
I will never forget that December of 1983 as that was the worst stretch of my life both physically and mentally.

I remember the second half of January 2004 in Québec City (Québec, French Canada) when I lived there, it was like -27°F daytime high (windchill of -40°F) during a week, night lows around -40°F with a windchill of -50°F ! It was a pretty nice experience actually.
