As for the map, looks like New England is similar to Mediterranean Europe and parts of Central Europe. Eastern Europe is more similar than western Europe.

Considering that we are basically thunderstorm free for 5-6 months out of the year, I would say the Midwest is exceptional when it comes to lightning.
Btw, the Euro is absolutely soaking the East Coast (and Florida)
Looks like we're awfully close to the edge of the screw zone there.
What we really need is a very large and messy Cat 3 to come straight north from the FL panhandle and spin out over north Georgia - for a whole week. That'll keep us wet enough until the winter storm track kicks in.
