dropped quickly from 78°F to 70°F at sunset. Dewpoints were at 51°F mid-afternoon! Our high was 81°F, New York City 83°F, but they're not cooling down fast, 78°F at sunset. New York City briefly hit a dewpoint of 52°F midday as well. Air was probably cleaner smelling than usual down there.
Burlington's only going to 60°F. Interesting to see it that warm, Lake Champlain is big enough to have an effect. Monday and Tuesday this week will be more humid; lows in the low 60s, then back to 50s.
Coos County, NH has two official observation stations:
Whitefield, NH (Mount Washington Regional Airport)
Berlin, NH (Municipal Airport, located in the town of Milan, NH on East River Rd, east of Route 16).
Both observation stations are USDA hardiness zone 3. Lows can fall into the 30s or cooler every month except for July typically. 30s are more unusual in June and August. 40s are more common.
What was the low the day you claimed the low might drop into the 60's?
I spoke too soon that night. The temp dropped quickly after sunset, bottomed out at 74 by around midnight, and didn't fall anymore for the rest of the night.
I don't feel like 40s are that unusual in northern NH/VT/ME any time of year?
Not unusual at all. Saranac Lake, NY is often one of the coldest spots in the interior Northeast, excluding northern Maine. August low temperatures there can drop below freezing.
