It's very close either way. Looks like it's centered around summer solstice / winter solstice. I'm guessing the biggest seasonal differences would in west coast states away from the ocean [see the links I posted]?
Yeah, Weaverville, CA a 46° Range. 93 Max, 47 Min in August. Damn.

Here's a photo I took of it. Was in the 40s in the morning when I visited (local coffee shop had its door open to cool it off so it wouldn't get hot inside in the afternoon), mid to upper 80s afternoon:
Biggest range is in February here. I wonder if you could find at least one place for each month. December seems to be an uncommon month, probably due to low sun angle.

I assume because winter is the dry season and Februrary with a higher sun angle than the other winter months?
Texas is oddly random — a dot for every season, even though none are in the arid western part of the state. My guess is the seasonal difference in diurnal range is slight.
i don't think it is so much random as it is a convergence spot, far enough south to get a Winter city, far enough west to get Summer cities, and far enough east to get Spring/Fall cities. Texas really has the most diverse set of climates in the country. arid mountains in the west, hot semi-arid in the south, humid subtropical to the east, and borderline continental in the north, with the center being a mishmash of all of those characteristics.

good point i agree but one thing i was curious about with coastal California is Winter seems to be in line with the rest of the country bottoming out in early January, with summer being the only season that really lags.

I've talked about this in another thread or two in the past. Where I live we have a huge diurnal temperature range of over 20C/36F in August, and then by November it is only 6 degrees.

Cool table, but how did you determine the month for whole states. Anyway according to you my state is April, and while Tommy didn't get my city due it being sort of small, it was surrounded by several springs, so I assume that's what it is.

I took every weather station in each state, and calculated the average diurnal range of all weather stations each month. Then I listed which month had on average the lowest and highest. Big states like Alaska have quite a wide variation, so this is just a snap shot of the average across the state.
Sitting here in VT it is snowing right now. Monday it is supposed to be 71. There you go. Spring.
