Or it could be like 1932

Which looks like it might have been a little warm.

You are right.... A pattern of a cold west and warm east may persist well through the winter.

What I would like to know is why a Bermuda high in the Atlantic is present in December. That is unrelated to El Nino and has been having more influence on the warmth in the east even compared to the split flow impact.

It was there December 2013 and December 2014. The only difference now is that parts of the Ohio valley and northeast are now seeing well above normal temps and not just the southeast.

I believe there is always a Ridge/High in the Atlantic, problem is this year its allowed to shift West and affect Eastern U.S because the trough is out West. If there was a trough over the Aleutian islands a ridge in the West a trough would dig in the East and therefore the Bermuda high would be squashed or pushed east. I make it sound so simple. Lolol.

And just like the Top down approach, We have to look West to East. Need something to fundamentally change in the Pacific to ruin this pattern. Been saying that for too long now. Nothing has changed.

Suddenly I miss a zonal flow but usually in winter the pattern is amplified so you get these Jet stream waves. Unfortunately the East is getting what the West had for years.

I fear this setup in the summer for this very reason of record warmth... speaking of summer... this is hard to fatham

^^

And here is the 2m temp at 228 hours out per Euro. The bottom half the state of Illinois will be at or above 70 degrees

^^

Notice southern Texas near the Mexican border may be over 90 degrees on Christmas day!

that actually wouldn't be as terrible for my area as once thought. Maybe no higher than 65? December 23-24 is what I'm more upset about.

Timing of the front will be crucial. Canadian has it clearing northeast by Christmas. Doubt that. Euro is next day, I think too slow?

And just like with snowstorms.. this is 1 run... might happen as is but all in all ... FRIGGIN HOT is the theme being shown Christmas Eve & Day

Near Record 850mb temps = same for Surface.

Euro12z Max temps Christmas Day afternoon
