Look at Africa and Australia, no cold anomalies, North America annoys me lol. But as long as we remain in the red I'll be satisfied, even if it's only by a degree or two, those subtle differences can be noticeable over a long period of time.

The thirty year trend shows cooling for North East winters, especially February. A warm winter now would be an anomaly.

I saw an article about that back a few years ago about why Europeans tend to believe in global warming much more than Americans. Winters here are not getting warmer like there. Just look at Zagreb and how much they have warmed. North America has the worst geography on the planet and it just figures we would be the one place to cool.

Sometimes people just think things are getting warmer, when they actually are not.

Our winters have gotten warmer though, NYC's average temperature has risen steadily, and the two warmest winters on record have occurred in the 2000's ('01-'02 and '11-'12).

Average winter temp at Central Park, NY:

'55-'84 = 33.5F
'65-'94 = 34.3F
'75-'04 = 35.0F
'85-'14 = 35.7F

I don't think winter has warmed to the same degree as the other seasons though, but that's something I have to double check.

Neither a warm nor a cold winter would be an anomaly. Any trend in temperatures is a lot smaller than month to month variation.

The trend is centered on February.

Winter is cooling, not warming.

If that were true, we couldn't know anything about changes.

Who's reporting what right now Nov 18th 23z.

It's been snowing and cold on the wrong side of Canada/U.S. Should I cancel winter?

But seriously.. I'd be more comfortable if the snowpack was more central and Eastern Canada which looked like was going to be the case with all the Quebec snows last month.

Then again.. might not be bad to build up Western and Central Canada.

Warmer in Northern Michigan than in El Paso right now, and it's not even close. Northern Mich is 57 while El Paso is 45

Could it be? Stronger it gets, the more a trough digs into Eastern U.S which would be for 1st week of December.
