I think it will happen on the 26th January. My birthday and of course, Australia day.
From 2000-2015 there have been 3 years where it hasn't reached 40°C. 2002, 2011 and 2012.

2011 and 2012 were La Nina years, don't know about 2002. With an El Nino approaching, I'm fairly certain we'll get a 40°C this coming summer.
