A sizeable majority of Americans seem to have very strange views about things like this in my opinion.. it's quite alarming.
When it comes to guns, I can see no argument that can support them.. yet these people who support guns wonder why America has a ridiculously high gun crime rate
Actually, gun violence does not correlate with restrictive gun laws in the US. Some of the safest places in the US are smaller towns in Middle America, where many guns are lawfully owned. Actually, some of the more dangerous cities are in states with more restrictive guns laws.. e.g., Camden or Newark right here in New Jersey.

Larger cities tend to have higher crime rates, and it's hard to restrict gun access in specific cities when the rest of the country is swarming with them - it's so easy to smuggle them.
America is too forgone when it comes to guns - there's no getting rid of them.

Maybe so, but for a supposedly developed country, the US has gun crime rates up to 100x larger than European countries. There is no denying that this is almost all mostly due to the high number of guns in the US and the easy access to them.
I mean, some right wing lunatics in the US even want to restrict background checks before buying a gun.. how crazy is that? How can you support potential psychopaths buying guns? Absolutely crazy stuff.

Partially true, but one could divert guns from legal markets in restrictive areas or criminals could import them from less restrictive states. The gun laws in the UK are far more restrictive than anything in the US. There's also the fact that the white non-hispanic murder is higher but not drastically higher than most European countries; the murder rate (by victim) is skewed by minorities, in particular the black population.

Except it's not obvious that it's mostly due to it. It's rather likely a contributing factor, but it's not the sole cause. Well maybe, but you'd need to present some proof.
In those portions of our country where it is supposed essential to personal safety to go armed with pistols and bowie-knives, mortal affrays are so frequent as to excite but little attention, and to secure, with rare exceptions, impunity to the murderer; whereas, at the North and East, where we are unprovided with such facilities for taking life, comparatively few murders of the kind are perpetrated. We might, indeed, safely submit the decision of the principle we are discussing to the calculations of pecuniary interest . Let two men, equal in age and health, apply for an insurance on their lives; one known to be ever armed to defend his honor and his life against every assailant; and the other a meek, unresisting Quaker. Can we doubt for a moment which of these men would be deemed by the Insurance Company most likely to reach a good old age?"
