Curious to see your comparison table.

Would you have guessed that non-coastal New England has similar average winter and spring daily lows as Moscow? I was surprised to find that out. Though obviously, Moscow is more variable.

Yeah, I think the colder average highs means there's less of a possibility of rain. Also their winter warm-ups are much less potent than in Amherst.

And they are probably more prone to spring and autumn snow.

Ok, here is Moscow, Turku, and a place in NI 2005-2014. It's Lough Fea at 225m ASL, so at least now Owen can't say "well i dont live there i live on higher ground".

I haven't looked at them in depth yet, so no conclusions from me so far. Except that higher ground in NI is really cool in summer!

edit: I added precipitation to the Moscow table.

Christ Lough Fea is exceptionally cool in summer. Seems to be the coolest from May-September but obviously the warmest in winter. Does seem like frost would be more likely there than in other two locations, though from May-August. Moscow is surprisingly warm in July. 26 C? I was thinking more like 23 C, honestly.

Moscow may have been skewed by a few extremely hot summers.

That's true. Particularly 2010. 2010 must have been an interesting year in Moscow, exceptionally cold winter followed by an exceptionally warm summer.

Not sure how accurate wunderground is, but apparently they had an average high of 11 F (-12 C) in January but 89 F in July (32 C)

It didn't go above -5 C that entire January..
