It's fascinating how our extremes came or comes in the same year or close.
Looking at a few..
Grand Forks:
Record Max: 109 in 1936
Record Low: -43° in 2004 However was 1936 before that at -42°! So the same year had both extremes!
Bridgeport:
Record Max: 103 in 1957
Record Low: -7° in 1984 However 1957 is tied for 2nd lowest at -5°! So before 1984 the same year had both ends of extremes!
Minneapolis:
Record Max: 108 in 1936
Record Low: -41° in 1888 but 1936 had the 4th coldest min at -34°
NYC:
Record Max: 106 in 1936
Record Low: -15° in 1934 just 2 yrs prior!
That is fascinating.... The Weather geek term is called "amplified" Jet Stream pattern. And I bet they weren't blaming you know what in the 1930s.
low: -5.3C / 22F on Jul 20
high: 45.2C / 113F on Jan 3
difference 50.5C / 123F
I think you mean 50.5 C= 91 F
