I was reading a research the other day and it said that the sun's magnetic field alternately affects the earth's magnetic as the earth rotates around it. The scientists were asserting that this had caused the galactic cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere to trigger lightning in the already charged thunderclouds. They say that this is the reason behind the increased number of thunderstorms in the UK. Any one of you have other ideas?
