Seems as if you've had several August months in a row that have been below normal. However, you've had several June months in a row above normal too right?
At least the summer ended up average in Mean temps and above average in maximum temps. I can't say the same thing here. This makes three summers in a row that are below normal
You are in a summer period like we were in 2007-2012, although we had record breaking months in that period in terms of coolness, rainfall and low sunshine.. don't think you've had that.
You are right, we have had several good Junes in the last few years, and pretty decent Julys too, this year was pretty average but had a good spell at the start and after having warm Julys in 2013 and 2014 I can't complain too much about an average-ish month. But August is becoming a joke.
(Using average max temperatures)
August 2015: 1C below average, 230% rainfall, 66% sunshine
August 2014: 1.5C below average, 200% rainfall, 90% sunshine
August 2013: 1.1C above average, 60% rainfall, 98% sunshine
August 2012: average, 60% rainfall, 90% sunshine
August 2011: 1.4C below average, 140% rainfall, 70% sunshine
August 2010: 1.6C below average, 180% rainfall, 52% sunshine 2nd RECORD DULL
August 2009: 0.6C above average, 66% rainfall, 80% sunshine
August 2008: 1.7C below average, 130% rainfall, 50% sunshine RECORD DULL
August 2007: 1.7C below average, 80% rainfall, 90% sunshine
August 2006: 0.9C below average, 130% rainfall, 60% sunshine
3x average rainfall in August would be a dream come true for me. But ours is mostly convective.
Yeah, dull, gloomy.. you name it.. we've been used to that in August in recent years
I hate it, in cooler months it is mostly frontal. Warmer than average months tend to be drier, but when they are wetter it is due to convective rainfall which I don't mind

What a load of ***ocks
That is incredible that you can have that so many August months have been below normal. I wonder if that will effect the next 30 year base period

Here is 1991-2015, to give an idea of what the 91-20 series will look like. It's pretty much identical to the 81-10 series, but December will be the coldest month of the year!

Maybe August will get better before 2020, and the averages will be unchanged. We'll see. June has been the summer star, relative to average. Since 2012 we've already seen an improvement here.

We have gone back to a more normal pattern since 2012. June used to be closer to August than it is now. Here are the averages for London (Camden) between 1858-1897, towards the end of the little ice age. Very cold winters.
A below average summer month in England is more noticeable than in Chicago, because our summer's are almost non existent in the first place.
A country that has cool and cloudy summers, to then have a below average temperature and sunshine is just disastrous.
MDW's anomalies since 2007. Most months within a few tenths of a degree Fahrenheit, May is nearly a degree warmer than the 30 year mean, but take a look at February. Nearly 5F below the 30 year average!!

Average is just about acceptable, so long as average sunshine is also at least average. Anything worse and it is a disaster, seeing as we have a short period of warmth in our year..
