You either need to be in the Pennines, east of Manchester area (extremely prone, you'll almost certainly see it once a year or more) or east coast for the best chance. It is pretty cool, but in most cases there is only 1-2 flashes of lightning.
Never seen it in Leeds either. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen lightning or heard thunder in the winter.
We experienced thundersnow just three days ago, at night, here in Trondheim. There were serious bolts and thunder, in all 54 strikes in the region. Some of the lightning bolts were pretty close to my place. I saw the lightning and heard the thunder.

Probably too far inland with respect to the unstable airmasses that produce it, and/or it is in a valley area surrounded by higher ground. Thundersnow favours the windward upslopes in unstable NW'ly winds where the Pennines are concerned.
The showers dissipate very quickly when they start going downhill on the other side, which I see happening a lot west of Sheffield.
A NW'ly cold airmass comes down on Tuesday, could trigger some thunder snow in western areas, and maybe it will get far enough inland to affect Sheffield? Doubtful, but it would be good if it did.
