Oh great! A guy here captured a video from March 2009 but he stopped recording and after some minutes a thunder was visible. ****!

Yup, I got to experience it a few times here over the years and the best was 6am January 24, 2015 when I went out to get an hourly snow measurement, unexpected, all of a sudden a bright blue/white flash and then a muffled roll. Was unreal with the snow. Not the typical type of Thunder you think of. I stopped in my tracks and just starred into the sky. And that's when you get such intense snow rates.

These were taken from that morning.

You mean low ratios? I vaguely remember that one. It was 7:1 or so. Around 2-3 inches fell. I think I remember some thunder in that one. Now, the massive snowstorm that happened three days after that was higher ratio (12:1), but no thunder for that one. Islip got a whopping 25 inches in that one, and also broke the daily snowfall record.

I also remember some thundersnow over Manhattan and Brooklyn in Feb 2014 while I was driving by.

I like powdery dry stuff better. Not just because it's easier to clean, but it accumulates faster and looks more appealing to me.

Of course, I also like to get a few wet snowfalls per season as well! Only dry stuff would become boring.

One of the most famous news clips of thundersnow, was in Chicago during the Groundhog's Day (aka Thundersnow Blizzard) of 2011

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJt4nV6hM1Y

In that snowstorm there were 63 lightning strikes around Chicagoland which is quite phenomenal for a snowstorm
