Not necessarily, though in a lot of places extreme cold is featured with sunny weather. It's hard to get much moisture when it's -45 C outside.
Yep true, won't get any higher than a -45C dewpoint at those temps.
I like sunny weather, but I hate the lower dewpoints it brings. I accept a tradeoff for mixed conditions, with higher humidity.
Hmm....just noticed the first 30C for the year, with 31C/14% RH/0.4C DP) at Kaikoura. I'd rather have the current 20C/77% RH/16C DP of here at present. Dry air sucks.
Interesting - the warmest town in the South Island is currently at 31C, while the coldest town is currently in the South Island is currently at 9.5C.
I don't mind the cold (and it gets cold up here), but I dislike overcast days, winter or summer. Dark days depress me.
-Overcast days in the winter usually means snow and I get sick of shoveling it. I so dislike that everything seems black and white with the snow and leaf-less trees.
-Overcast days in the summer usually means rain and my arthritis acts up. It makes my back and sciatica hurt. We don't have too many hot, humid days in the summer, so I still welcome the sunshine over clouds.
There's no need for these to be separated. In the central part of Florida it's often 33C with bright sun in mid-late afternoon, then 23C and raining by dinnertime. In fact, it's sometimes warmer at 5AM than at 5PM, due to storms. I love such dramatic summer weather. It's hot every day but you also have a break from the heat on many evenings.
maybe, but I'm sure you'd like a 22c dewpoint, which would be far from refreshing IMO
I was more thinking about, say, 24c with a 18c dewpoint at most, or even less if it is possible (not sure with rain though)
My friend thinks this way. I think she's crazy. A sunny cold day is much better than a dreary cold day. And you get some warmth from the sun to help counteract the cold. Same with summer, a hot day with the sun beating down on you is far worse than with cloud cover (or just standing in the shade in general). To me it's not what weather is supposed to be, it's what you get and I just hope for whatever is most comfortable.
I don't really think that way. The only one I really dislike is when it's raining and sunny at the same time. Bleh. If it's raining, I shouldn't see the sun.
Personally my favorite type of day is breezy, temp of about 45-50 and completely overcast. Lovely weather! Only exception is when I'm on vacation at the beach, then I want the sun!
