Should have made the poll just LA or NOLA. That would have gotten people to think a little more.

Key West.

It was 80 last New Years Day in Key West.

I'm sure a few of the cities in Hawaii were also.

It was pretty close in Miami/FLL.

Phoenix or Miami for the mainland. Some skilled statistician would be required to tell which is more likely and I suspect it is close. In fact it may well be that Miami is more likely to make it on January 1 but Phoenix will be hotter by a week or so in.

Honolulu of course for the US - 80 there virtually every day in January.

I chose Houston. LOL

Question is... who is going to come back to this thread and see who was right?

Instead of "other" you should just have us pick from the choices provided.

Miami will more likely be the first

3rd: 83
4th: 83
5th:84
6th: 84
7th: 81

And here were the high temps in Phoenix for that same 7-day period:

1st: 46
2nd: 54
3rd: 54
4th: 65
5th: 74
6th: 79
7th: 81

Moreover, that 81 degree day on January 7th was the only day in the entire month of January when the high in Phoenix reached 80+.

You of all people should know better than anecdotes.

Try ten years of first ten days with some analysis of the variability.

And I would bet I can find a year when Miami did not get over 80 for the first week of the year.
