I wonder how these analog years using current North Atlantic SST's play into your summer?

^^ not great. 1987, 1993 and 1992 were all quite bad. June 1992 was very warm but July and August were cool.

1983 would be the best by far with a very warm (I believe record breaking at the time) July, and an okay June and August. 2015 was average overall, with a decent June and August, and a crap July in between (although down south it was a decent June and July followed by a crap August).

Above-average Mays don't seem to lead to good summers in this country, so I'm secretly hoping that this May doesn't turn out to be very warm.

May 1989 was very warm and sunny (average high 21.0c, 310.1 hrs sun), and lead to a good summer.

May 1992 was similar (average high 21.0c, 271.9 hrs sun), and the summer that followed was cool and cloudy.

WO seems to be underestimating the amount of sunshine and the 16h+ days. I find the forecast for the next days quite pessimistic. The last 4 days might be optimistic as the models don't seem to agree. If the now building-up high pressure on the Baltic Sea stay strong, we will see those temps. If it weakens a bit, we can get infused with some more warmer air, but if it dies out it will open the floodgates for descending arctic air. Seems that every 6h model disagrees what happens.

Lahti might be seeing some crazy diurnal ranges: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weath...R=0&NOREGION=1

83 was the best here too by far. 1987 was ok. 1993 was just fair, 2015 was a fail, and 1992 was the one of the coolest on record!

I've looked into that here and found no real statistical trend. Though wet Mays usually end up having cooler summers (but not always).

It's a few weeks behind schedule, but finally we have the answer. 5th May is the date; currently 20c at Heathrow, St James's Park, City Airport and Northolt.

Yeah, it's been a poor spring up until now. Not wasting any time as it could reach 80f over the weekend.

Blah, Almost all of Southern and Central Finland hit 20C today, but we peaked at 19.5C. New attempt tomorrow.

Well, on La Mex's standards Salo is in my "metro area", so maybe that counts.
