For me, long summers days are far worse. They make me restless. Noisy neighbours, always the feeling you "have to enjoy" the long evenings etc etc.

If I live in a varied daylight hours latitude, I think I'd appreciate the early side (early sunrise in summer long days, early sunset in winter short days) and dislike the late side (late sunset in summer long days, late sunrise in winter short days)

Short winter days are by FAR the worst.

Long summer days are great. When the daylights gets below 12 hours it sucks.

Here in Southern California, the winter days aren't that short (about 10 hours of full daylight) but I still prefer the 14 + hours in summer.

However, if I lived in a Northern latitude, the short daylight hours in winter would drive my mad.

None, I adore both of them. It's the 12-hour days which I don't like.

I'd prefer to be close to the equator where daylight doesn't vary much.... so 12 hour days are optimal

Short winter days are worse for me but I honestly don't mind them all that much. I don't think I'd want to live somewhere with uniform day length throughout the year.

Long summer days are worse. I don't want to be eating dinner or going to bed when it's still light out. They can be nice for evening walks or parties, but generally I prefer the early sunsets of winter. It's cozy.

Definitely short winter days. 5.30 now and it's completely dark, sunset was at 4. And still a month till the solstice- you just can't do things when it gets dark in mid-afternoon. If it had continuous snow cover it wouldn't feel so gloomy, but Britain doesn't while still having 50-60N day lengths.

Broad daylight at 4am is a bit disconcerting when it wakes you up, but it doesn't depress you like winter darkness.
