Snowing in Chicago as the Upper Low moves overhead. Just scattered snow showers around in MN, IL, IA, WI.
What an edge to the front. Wow. Very defined. Southerly flow in the East
Want to see how crazy the pattern is? There's the storm. It's just 1 big Pool of cold air. No other cold air around except the Rocky Mountain areas. So is this how it snows during El Nino? There has to be cold air pulled down from the upper levels?
You can clearly see where the Upper Low is with this without looking at the 500mb heights. It's above freezing all around it. Polar Jet Stream still waaay north in Canada.
This pool of cold air will move East and moderate then dissipate.
You may not get a response - don't know that many from these areas venture into the Weather thread.
I'm in that area, near the Iowa/SD/Nebraska borders (Clay County SD). Don't know what OBS means, but it snowed steadily but not hard here from about 9:30 a.m. on Monday to past 1:30 a.m. this a.m. (Wed.) It was still grey but not snowing at 7:30 a.m. today. Now at nearly noon it is bright and sunny.
I've been snowed in since it started. The county finally plowed the county road at 10:30, and my farm road was plowed by 11:00 am. (stop to investigate noise)
Oh spit! The county guy just made another pass which means I'll have to dig out through the massive bolders of snow between my farm road and the county road. AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGG!
The average depth of snowfall on my property is apx. 11", but it looks now mostly about 7" on the flats. Taken with just a yardstick.

Ha, don't you hate that? And it's compacted wet, slushy, icy pile too. Not fun.

Looks like you were in or near the bullseye zone with this storm. You benefited from some heavy snow rates which helped accumulate nicely in that area.
