A daily rain of 70mm would barely raise a comment here, unless it came after a dry spell.

Or you can say a lot of days having over 70mm of rain. That definitely shouldn't be welcomed.

There is no occasion where 70mm would cause "catastrophic" floods. Maybe some ponding on roads.

It depends on the definition of catastrophic.

70mm in an hour is going to cause problems.

Haven't heard a single cicada so far, which is very unusual.

Generally start hearing individual ones as early as October, with one or two heard most days from about November on, but this year I haven't heard a single one- could it mean a late, but warmer summer?

Just looking at the stats for the year, to the end of November.

Average minimum is 5.6C
Average maximum is 18.8C
Highest temperature was 29.7C
lowest temperature was -4.4C
6 months had lowest minimums below 0C
10 months had highest maximum at 20C or higher

Rainfall and sunshine up until 26th of December

Rainfall at 873mm -down by 530mm
Rain days>1mm at 73 - down by 24 days
Sunshine at 2558 hrs -up by about 100 hrs

When Decembers stats come in, the year will likely end average for temperatures, much drier, and about 6% sunnier.

I guess that's true. But regular occurrence of 70mm -- Say three or four consecutive days of that much rain would definitely be pestilent in some areas. Especially when you're driving.

White Christmas in some low-lying areas in Southern Patagonia!!

There were some flakes in the upper neighbourhoods of Ushuaia and a good snowfall in the Perito Moreno Glacier area (250 meter asl), near El Calafate: https://www.instagram.com/p/_umcumghOI/

Incredibly, this morning it snowed in El Calafate itself, which is much more impressive than a snowfall in Ushuaia. No idea when was the last time it occured something like this in this area.

The thermal gradient throughout Patagonia was spectacular yesterday:
Ushuaia (54ºS): 2.0ºC / 7.6ºC
El Calafate (50ºS): 2.4ºC / 9.3ºC
Gobernador Gregores (48ºS): 7.0ºC / 19.5ºC
Puerto Deseado (47ºS): 8.3ºC / 25.3ºC
Comodoro Rivadavia (45ºS): 15.4ºC / 29.0ºC
Trelew (43ºS): 18.6ºC / 34.8ºC
Río Colorado (39ºS): 23.6ºC / 39.2ºC
