Both cities lack a proper winter, and if I don't get snow at least I'd like to get rain. Therefore, I pick Sydney, even though both cities get a considerable amount of sunshine.
Madrid by far.
Sidney winter low sucks, and they have lot of sunshine all year round.
I prefer Madrid with sunny amazing summers plus winter being way cloudier too, just the way I like it.
+1, Sydney is way too humid and the winters aren't good for nothing because a wet winter means real cold, I prefer to stay somewhere where is very dry and 2-3ºC rather than in a rainy climate with 8-9ºC...

I think that Madrid would be more likely to see 8-9C with rain, rather than Sydney.

Sydney's only mildly humid. Try Brisbane for consistent summer humidity. Our heat is mostly dry (look at the record highs).
Also, Sydney has never gotten rainy 8-9C days. Try rainy 14-16C days.
