Yeah, even in January here in most years we get only 31-32C,much rarely above it,its because our prevailing winds is always from the ocean, who moderate the temperature.
So far this month has run 9.2 F above average. It can get another 0.5 F above average before it sets a new record. However, since we look to finish with some cooler days, I'm predicting an anomaly of around 7 F. This would make it the 5th warmest December on record.
If we were to finish the month with average temperatures, that would make it the warmest December since 1984.
Hopefully this is the last week of this nonsense...yesterday was muggy and 75F that is plus 25 above normal, we have been above normal all but 3 or4 days this month. I have seen warm or mild Christmas weather living in north Ga, but nothing this sustained for the months of Nov and Dec. The ski resorts are suffering big time these holiday weeks as this time makes up for 35 percent of their sales revenues. But according to some long range models by New years day and beyond there are average and even below average temps coming. and around the period of Jan 4-10th some models are sniffing out a snowstorm or two as far south as Western North Carolina. God please I beg you I can't take much more of this! I can't afford to move to Alaska yet!!!!
Gee let's see how mild, with 6 days left Midway Airport has an average of 42.7F/5.9C to date blowing away any month on record at that site since 1928! Normal Mean is is 29.3F/-1.3C (1981-2010). So only 13.4F/7.2C above normal
Reading this thread underlines just how stable my climate is.
I don't mind bursts of mild spells at all. I am used to erratic weather here. After all I live in the Midwest. We've even had a tornado in January in recent years
Here are the watch boxes for the Chicago area, during that January 2008 tornado...
Nearest NWS station to my house January 2008. We had a couple of nights of -19C then up to 19C four days later with a low of 11C, then back down to -22C later that month. That is ok with me.
But day after day of this crap is so incredibly boring for winter.
-19C to 19C is crazy stuff. Never see massive swings between cold and warm weather here, although Christchurch managed a 35C range within 24 hours (36C down to 1C) 4 days ago, within city limits.
I guess people wouldn't be expecting tornadoes during winter. Been a few around the country lately, with some biggish ones down south. There were several here last week, although in unpopulated areas - just trees pulled out of the ground, snapped in half etc..
We've set new record highs here today. At one point, my area reached 26.67°C (80°F). And now we're paying the price with tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and flash flood warnings.
Scilly Isles are averaging 13.1C/11.1C. Ridiculously mild there.
This is getting Scilly
