It's crazy to think some places lack tornado sirens, you just get ambushed.

We don't have tornado sirens here. I guess because strong tornadoes are pretty rare in my area. I don't think anyone was killed by a tornado in my parish/county since the 1950's.

No one should rely on sirens.

I'm surprised, aren't you in Dixie Alley? This town has them but NYC doesn't, and it seems more prone to tornados than here lately. The strongest tornados here are all F2's, a couple of which are probably EF3 equivalent.

I agree, but I'd rather hear them instead of being blindsided by 100mph+ winds. They should sound for straight line winds as well, they can be just as dangerous as tornados.

We have "lightning" sirens here, they go off anytime there's a thunderstorm. Tornadoes are very rare here, and when they do occur aren't much more than F1.

I don't think many towns in Louisiana have them. The town in north Louisiana where I went to college installed some recently.

My area is usually considered Dixie Alley, but Louisiana doesn't seem that prone to violent tornadoes compared to parts of Mississippi and Alabama.

Here's a map of F-4 tornadoes since 1950. The one in central LA was in December 1953.

So why is it warming up in the East and Northeast?

Guess where the flow is coming from.

500mb Heights and Winds.

And guess what the mid level temps are.

850mb Temps

Upper flow to Mid temps to Surface results. Top Down.
