We saw a quarter of an inch (6 mm) of rain from our system last night, which is kind of disappointing considering how big it looked on the map.

AccuWeather says we'll get 2-4" (5-10 cm) of snow between now and Friday night... Why can't it turn to spring already? I'm sick of this subarctic "40°F [4°C] WITH SNOW!" nonsense that Mother Nature likes giving us lately. It's April, so we should be in the lower 50s °F (lower teens °C) by now.

Wow, lots of posts. Want to reply to all but how about just some record lows from this morning...

===========================

Oh... Polar Vortex does not like Open waters. Period. Maybe that will help explain why its easier to drop south to Asia and N.America? Easier over Land, Ice, & Snow. Cold travels easier as well and doesn't moderate. Right now the Vortex is rotating towards Greenland but it about to make a left towards Hudson bay and drop back down to Quebec this weekend. lol

===========================

Some record lows for the date: Noticed more focused on the Mid Atlantic then New England. Yesterday was New England breaking records, this morning its Mid Atlantic

Nasty nasty nasty night. Things look pretty alright though, myrtles pulled through, some damage on trees with young leafs, only totaled tree that I saw was none other than my fig, only a few young leaves left, buds fared better but still mostly gone, had 4 young branches on it popping right out the ground, they fared better than leaves up higher, it will be another 2 weeks till the tree recovers and puts some new leaves back on. Very nasty. temps this cold are not common for April in any year 32, 33, 31 are all typical temps with generally lowest temp around there but temps into the 20s is record breaking territory.

Saturday April 9, 2016 Snow Event:

5 Maps. Latest Models.

Basically a trough is digging down and there are storms rotating around. As this one comes around Saturday, there's plenty of cold air. It makes the turn around NJ it sets up a heavy snow zone around NYC because of the force of the turn Northeast.

The track is perfect for me IMO because any turn further south or north and that heavy snow zone changes.

Also notice.. the storm is "inside" the cold trough as opposed to riding along the Jet stream. I don't see this often ESPECIALLY in April. Meaning, the rain snow line is in NC while all the moisture is up this way.

NAM snow totals. Has 3-6" for NYC area. Non event for most of CT and MA.

Canadian Snow totals. Non event except some snow for NYC area and high elevations of West Virginia

GFS snow totals. GFS looks like the bigger event but again overall but less than 4" most of CT again, none in MA except for mountains.

Last one... Euro snow totals. heaviest snows over Eastern Long Island and snows in the NC mountains.

WHY COULDNT THIS PATTERN HAPPEN IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY>????

Warm morning in the 50s here which is the normal max. LOL.

Why? Southerly flow at mid and upper levels.

From 20s to 50s in the morning. All normal. But look off to the West.. NW flow coming.

Actual OBS's Bridgeport on top, Hartford on bottom.

Bridgeport max temps were 14 below normal April 4 & 5. 12 below normal April 5 & 6.
0.1" of snow April 4th, the record on that day is 2.4"

Hartford went from 72° on April 1st to a high of 27° on April 5th! 18 above normal to 29 below normal and a record snowfall that day with 4.0".

Another great link to save!
