Yeah, even though it's been well below normal here too, it seems as if this cold spell has really been center out east.
Check out this super Omega Block over Greenland
Beyond that a warm up is imminent...
Speaking of Blocking.. Not done yet... again mid next week but for New England more..
Tom should look at the North Atlantic not just the Pacific....
NWS Boston.....
YET ANOTHER ANOMALOUS RIDGE IS BUILDING INTO GREENLAND MID NEXT WEEK WHICH WILL PUT NEW ENGLAND BACK UNDER THE INFLUENCED BY ANOTHER UPPER LEVEL TROUGH TUES-THURS

I have given up. If it is not the Pacific it is the Atlantic. Everything conspires to give eastern North America the worst climate on earth for someone with my weather preferences. Now you know what happened in the 80's. Warm PDO combined with cold AMO produces the coldest temps possible for eastern NA. Block after block over Greenland.

For my weather preferences that set up (minus the other teleconnections), gives me a great combination. The 1980's was pretty good to me weather-wise.
The 90's had a couple of good summers, but overall cooler than average.... The winters were generally very weak. Same goes for the 2000's. Since 2010 we've had overall cooler than average summers and warmer than average winters

As I said in the other thread, the 1980s was the least snowiest decade for us here. Don't ever mention it again! lol
I wonder if being in a Cold AMO did it to us, verse being in a warm AMO as we been in recently which has led to more coastal storms and more snow.
"a colder phase in the Atlantic could bring drought and consequent famine to the developing countries of Africa’s Sahel region. In the UK it would offer a brief respite from the rise of global temperatures, while less rainfall would mean more frequent summer barbeques. A cold Atlantic also means fewer hurricanes hitting the southern US."
"Each time the PDO was warm, global climate warmed; each time the PDO was cool, global climate cooled.” “Each of the two PDO warm periods (1915-1945 and 1978-1998) and the three cool periods (1880-1915, 1945-1977, 1999-2014) lasted 25-30 years. If the flip of the PDO into its cool mode in 1999 persists, the global climate should cool for the next several decades."

SUBTLE...BUT IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES IN THE TRACK OF A LOW PRESSURE
SATURDAY. JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE 08/00Z GUIDANCE STARTS WITH A
CLIPPER-LIKE LOW PRESSURE NEAR LAKE ERIE AROUND MIDNIGHT
SATURDAY. THE MAJORITY OF THE GUIDANCE THEN SWINGS THIS LOW
PRESSURE WELL SOUTH OF THE 40N/70W BENCHMARK DURING THE DAY
SATURDAY. THE EXCEPTION IS THE OPERATIONAL GFS...WHICH HAS A TRACK
JUST FAR ENOUGH NORTH TO GRAZE THE SOUTH COAST OF NEW ENGLAND.
HAVE SEEN THIS GAME PLAYED MANY TIMES THIS PAST WINTER...ONLY TO HAVE THE LOW TRACK COME NORTH WITH LATER GUIDANCE. SO NOT YET
READY TO DRY THE FORECAST OUT COMPLETELY. HAVE GREATER CONFIDENCE
THOUGH IN DRIER WEATHER NORTH OF I-90.
7.7 degrees below average for April so far. If April finishes below average, which it probably will, this will make 9 of the past 16 months below average in Upstate NY
