The sun didn't shine at all that day. Runners in the Pittsburgh Marathon didn't have to worry about overheating, but nonetheless, it was just a raw, depressing day, and very anomalous for May. In fact, if you experienced it directly, like I did, you never would have guessed that six weeks later, temperatures in Pittsburgh would flirt with 100°F for an entire week.
Woah that sounds pretty sick, would love to have a repeat of that

It was a cold, raw, dark, wet, depressing 4 days in Denver. Highs were around 30 below average My house had about 48 hours straight with snow and rain, but none of the snow stuck. Southern metro area has snow on the ground, maybe 3" or so on the grass. Then it was around 28 this morning.

It's sunny, but in no way feels like May. This has been a rather awful Spring in Denver. Just so much snow... for the season, we've had 73" of snow at the airport, about 15 more than average. People are just sick of it! Seriously, March was much nicer with lots of sun and warmth! Hopefully, this is the end of snow for us.

My record low for May is near 30°

White Plains: 32
NYC: 32
Bridgeport: 31 (May 10, 1966)
Danbury: 26
Our May record low is about 40F, Wunderground is forecasting 50F Friday morning.

Though, apparently it hit 49 F in May 1921.

A morning low in the upper 40s in May is hard to imagine. Hell, anything below about 63 F or so seems pretty rare in May.
It was in the upper 40s here last May. It was odd because April only got a temperature down to the mid 40s so May almost got a colder temperature! Wunderground forecasting 50F here Friday morning, so we could see upper 40s again.

Cool weather in May always feels odd, at least down here. I bet this morning in Tallahassee would have felt really weird:

A near freeze in May in Tallahassee is amazing!

I remember experiencing frost that morning in North GA. I remember because I was pissed that it was a only a day off from me experiencing a frosty May morning lol.

I remember this morning too because I was surprised it could get that cool in GA that late in the season. Near frost conditions only a couple of weeks from June! Look at that diurnal range too.

Last night the thunderstorms were up in Ohio, now it's missing me to the south.

And May 8, 1992 came close too. Take a look at the setup. Impressive! A cutoff low that far south??

Should be interesting to see 1 or 2 mornings of the next 8 days.

Here is the 500mb height anomaly from Euro model for end of this week.

Surface will be Below normal all the way down to Florida. Entire East. These bowling balls are digging far south past 6 weeks, why couldn't this be December.
