Euro00z says heat continues next 7 days after today. I'm thinking 1-2 day breaks at best after that. We'll see, still long range.. Good news is not many days with dews in upper 60s/70s but still.....
Hot and Humid Pattern for sure. Enjoy today guys!!
11am EST . Goodbye troughiness Canadian flow in Northeast. that big ridge about to expand and the Jet stream lift north into Canada. GET READY for some long duration HHH days Northeast. Lets see if another dip can happen to save us next week. I feel bad for the south with this pattern
While Chicago & Kentucky has a Northwest flow aloft, they are practically near the center of the Hot Humid Ridge and have a flow that's still originating from the Gulf of Mexico. And Pacific a little
597dm center of Dome
595dm up to Iowa.
585dm up to Winnipeg
By it being in central US, the Jet stream can dip in the Northeast allowing us to get those breaks. Albeit 1-2 days but still, helps!
Simply astounding the lack of extreme heat in Pittsburgh. Really surprising you haven't been above 92 F in four years.
Right now it's 93 F with a 74 F dew point, 103 F heat index. Predicted high was 89 F. NWS must get its data from the GFS.
I just think the core of the heat probably has to be in the Deep South or along the East Coast ("east-based") in order for Pittsburgh to get roasted. If the core of the heat is in Texas, the Great Plains or the Great Lakes ("central-based"), then Pittsburgh tends to get less extreme heat, because the heat modifies somewhat as it moves east. The only summers this century during which the core of the heat was east-based for an extended period of time were 2002, 2007 and 2011. The rest have been central-based. Even in 2012, though the heat was very widespread that summer, the core of the heat was in the central U.S. In fact, the summer of 2011 was more consistently hot in the Northeast than the summer of 2012 was. Also worth noting is that most people in the central U.S. considered last summer to be a dud, but Pittsburgh had a normal (albeit back-loaded) summer with regard to 90°F days, and it was generally considered to be a moderately hot summer up and down the East Coast.
Lol! Another round today. Southeast Georgia just can't catch a break it seems.
