I've read that in the Southern Alps of New Zealand and in microclimate pockets in the Andes Continental climates exist, however has anyone ever found a location that confirms this?

New Zealand doesnt have any Continental Climate, only South America does.

This Place is the Vale de los Pator Superior(2800m/33S).

This Place have an Dsb/Dsc Climate.

I dont know what make this place Continental while others dont.

The Climate in This place is so crazy that it is the owner of all Latin America Record Low of -39C.

For Comparassion its Colder than Mount Mitchell for Example, course higher altitude but lower Latitude.

And in Theory,Mount Mitchell should have lower record lows due to most Cold Continental Air.

Those climates suck. The warmest months have recorded hard freezes - not truly continental in my opinion. That's the problem with Australia and New Zealand - all the places with cold winters can experience frost in the summertime, while all the places with reliably warm summers have mild winters.

A climate only has to achieve summers warmer than 10C and winters below 0C (or -3C) to be Continental, so there would be some areas of Dfb climate, between certain altitudes in the Southern Alps. They would be very weak examples of a Continental climate though.

Although I really think any climate at altitude, is just a colder version of it's low land counterpart -not fundamentally different climates.

Well, the OP wanted continental climates in the southern hemisphere. They were the closest I could find. I'm aware that there are other ones in South America, but I wanted to start with Aussie examples.

Btw, this thread has been done before and pretty much everything was discussed there: Most continental climate in the Southern Hemisphere
