I remember living in San Francisco during the Great Freeze of December 1990. It went on for a week and daily highs were in the mid-20's in San Francisco. Thousands of Eucalyptus trees died and almost all the jade plants withered away. I recall walking on Nob Hill from the Fairmont Hotel wearing a parka and the ponds in Golden Gate Park were frozen over. It was the strangest sight. It didn't snow, but it stayed bright and clear with arctic wind. It was something.

Highs in the mid 20s in San Francisco? Did this really happen???

I checked weather.gov. Looks like it was lows in the 20s. Certainly not highs. And not mid 20s, high 20s. Coldest it got was 27.
