well, that still looks like may to me (aside from the relatively high lows). Plus it never reaches 30c aside from september. I think even London does a better job most summers.

I lived through the summer of 2010 as I still lived in San Diego (I finally moved in 2012).

I was forced to take 3 vacations because of how depressing it was. One to Costa Rica in July. The other to Peru in August (where I went to the Amazon), and then I also went to Colombia in August. Basically the entire August I was not in San Diego.

No one I knew liked that summer, everyone was deeply miserable. Most of all tourists who were essentially robbed. Beaches were empty, and most people (including myself) wore light jackets the entire summer. When we started to get some, I mean just some, warmth in late August/September our internal clocks were so thrown off we were expecting summer just around the corner. Unfortunately for us it was a 'dead cat bounce' of the summer that never was.

I did notice all the English names around SoCal such as Cardiff by the Sea/Manchester etc as the "summer" deeply reminded me of the weather of one summer I spent in Liverpool.

Yes, the coast had very depressing and chilly weather that summer but inland was still quite sunny and significantly warmer (during the day). You didn't need to travel all the way to Costa Rica to see the sun when simply driving inland to El Cajon would have given you nice, sunny 85F + days. I would say a good climate analogy for that non-summer would be San Francisco, not London, because if you were in the inland suburbs, away from the marine layer, you could still get pool weather. Inland suburbs also have AC in most homes while the homes on the coast do not (which is why many people who lived on the beach complained about not being able to sleep during those warm muggy nights last summer even if the ocean was perfect for swimming in).

The big question I have regarding this summer is if our warm epoch will survive the upcoming La Niña,

Santa Maria summer 2010 vs summer 2015: Summer 2010 was very cool and marine layer almost everyday with no hot weather until late August. The overnight low even wen down to 42 degrees! The highs and lows were cooler than average. While summer 2015 was very warm and unusually humid had weaker marine layer. The overnight lows were well above average even reaching 70 degrees when remnants of Dolores impacted California.

Wow; even the average low during your warm epoch summer was colder than average low in San Diego in June of 2010. You only had a low of 70F once while San Diego had 3 consecutive months with an average low of 70F. Looks very San Franciso-esque. What was your warmest SST there last summer?

Probably in the low to mid 60's.

Coastal areas north of Point Conception are much more subject to the California Current, therefore cooler SST's and cooler air temps
