That's insane. If it was like that everywhere radar detectors would be obsolete. Unfortunately you never know which hick town may be in need of a stimulus for their police dept...
I wish it were like that. People should drive however fast they want, just make the driving test much, much harder so the everyday moron can't pass it. lol
Every town in southern GA seems to need a stimulus package......
I'm not sure if ESTL is to blame, it's across the river in Illinois. Didn't know it was worse than Camden, although Camden is larger.
I wonder if the crime stats from ESTL are included for STL? Maybe not. I know STL has some really rough areas within its city limits, but ESTL is in its own league.
I think part of the reason STL has such a sky-high crime rate is because of East St. Louis. That place is literally a war zone within the US, it's even worse than Camden, NJ.
It doesn't factor into STL's numbers. Most of the damage is done in North St. Louis where some of the neighborhoods have murder rates like 200/100k or 300/100k. Which is just unbelievable, that is like 90s Medellin levels
It cleaned up A LOT. It had a homicide rate of about 6.5/100k last year, which is high by New York standards, but it's fantastic by nationwide standards. It's about the same rate as the city of Boston, less than half of Chicago's rate, and like 1/9 of St. Lou's rate. Even the worst part of New York City is like Disneyland compared to St. Louis or Detroit lol
I've learned that crime/murder rates have a tendency to become skewed, so comparing areas with millions of people to areas with thousands or hundreds is a bit difficult. I mean, The Bronx has cleaned up tremendously, but it's still worse than Boston, although the numbers would lead you to believe they're comparable.
Tbh, I didn't know it was far or that the Bronx was rough as well (I know it had a bad rep back in the 70s-90s but I thought it had cleaned up its act).
It's not all bad, but parts are extremely poor, mainly the South Bronx. Violent crime isn't that bad for a poor inner city area (murder rate maybe 10-15/100k in the South Bronx?), but it's still among the worse parts of the city. But yes, much better than 70s-90s.
Bad NYC neighborhoods have had a huge decline in robberies, but I'm never sure if the NYPD isn't faking stats. Can't fake murder stats. Car theft have gone way down there at least.
