I think it's more to do with the fact that there's a thread or discussion on how lousy/bad/crap/cloudy/wet/gloomy/miserable the UK's climate is at least once a week if not more, so it's a little tiresome now. Haven't we had enough already? There are other climates in the world to discuss.
B87 has a good point though. I've never seen such a protracted sunless spell at this time of year (there have been two days this month with no recorded sunshine), and even in winter it'd be a hard task to get a week of no sun at all (although it has happened). Maybe NE US does everything more extreme than us, even cloudiness.

It doesn't help that our sunshine recorder seems to record 2-3 hrs less sun than actually occurred on sunny or partly cloudy days though. I can understand 30 mins, but not a couple of hours!
Anyway, nowhere in the UK is even remotely sunny, so that stereotype is certainly correct. The sunniest place in the country only gets about 54% sunshine in the sunniest month, and that is only in a very tiny part of the country. Move inland away from that small area, and it quickly drops below 50%.
Lol I think a lot of us use this forum to moan. Just listen to all of us in the East and the absolute total disaster this month of May has been. Hopefully both us and the UK get a summer to make up for this May. 3rd coldest on record so far here in DC, Philly and NYC.
He's just fed up with the inaccurate stereotypes like everyone else from the UK on here (minus you).
I don't really fret over whether a summer day is sunny or partly cloudy, they are both good and a partly cloudy day isn't going to make someone suicidal. Some people would have you believe that you go days without seeing the sun however, which is only true in the cloudiest spells of winter (around 3-5 days at a time). The winter months average 2-3 hrs a day, and most days see some sunshine. I'd rather have a couple of hours every day, instead of 15 days of overcast and then 15 days of sun.
Didn't the NE US just go 10-11 days without seeing the sun? That's more than we went at any point over the past year, during which Heathrow had its cloudiest November and 2nd cloudiest December.
It has been so cloudy I can't even describe it to you. We had days of sun where I was so sick of seeing that golden brash object. Now I'm desperate to remember what it looks like lol.
We seem to get stuck in patterns far more than the UK does. So much for any of the measley benefits of a continental climate.
Partly cloudy would make people here jump for joy after what we have put up with. In fact, partly cloudy is just about every day in summer. Clear days in summer are not common here. I'm fine with them.
Except the instance where they show the Big Ben, of course. That part is always sunny. The rest of the movie is rainy, though. LOL.
That's the only place in the UK right? The Big Ben? That's all I know. Oh and Stonehenge...
