May was very warm, but the smallest anomalies were on the west coast. On the Ã…land islands not even above normal. 20 stations recorded their warmest May in history, and the 10C mean reached up to Rovaniemi at the Arctic circle. Salo stopped reporting on the 18th, so no summary from there.

Record high: 27.7C (31st)
Record low: 0.0C (1st)

Record high low: 12.2C (31st)
Record low high: 11.1C (17th)

most precipitation in a day: 33 mm (15th)

No snow, no TS.

Helsinki Airport recorded its hottest May ever. The FMI recorded a 14.2C mean (+3.7C), but I'm just use the simple hi+lo/2 for comparison's sake.

And finally the Turku Archipelago:

I remember a statement you made about possibly having a "Chicago May"..... Even though it was a warm May at your location, in the end, Turku didn't quite have a typical "Chicago May"... A high of 19.1C is 2-2.5C lower than Chicago's. Helsinki's average high of 20C is closer, and we've had plenty of Mays that had an average high of around that.... The Mean however is considerably lower 13.9C at Helsinki compared with MDW's 30 year average of 16.1C. That would be the 19th coolest on record at Chicago/MDW since 1928, with the vast majority of the cooler readings being recorded before 1950. Using the FMI which you said recorded 14.2C would be the 5th coolest since 1980

Yeah, except for the last two days the last week of May failed to deliver. The first burst of warmth went straight to Lapland and they had 24-25C highs while we were sitting at 18C. Anyway, it was a very optimistic statement in already the beginning. And I didn't remember your lows were that high in May already.

It started as one of the coldest & ended as one of the warmest.
This month was so all over the place I'd have no clue whether it came out above or below average without looking up the numbers.

May 2016 in Rimini, Italy

A dismal May that confirms the very recent awful trend for springtime.
The month was cloudy and unsettled (12 rainy days!), with daytime temperatures almost constantly below average and a general lack of warmth.
Humidity was a bit high, so much for a change. Old but gold.

Rimini-Miramare airport data (comparison with 1971-2000 averages):
Average high: 21.0°C (-0.9°C)
Average mean: 17.0°C (+0.4°C)
Average low: 12.6°C (+1.4°C)
Extremes:
Highs: 16.3°C/26.3°C
Lows: 7.7°C/16.2°C
Rainfall: 40 mm (-8 mm)
Rainy days: 12 (+5 days)
Mean humidity: 82%
Sunshine hours: 242

Can't speak for temperatures, but it was an extremely wet month here in SE Georgia. Savannah had 9 inches of rain this past month, which is triple their average.
