Btw, I correct the average max for MDW in 1990. It should read 19.5C instead of 20.5C

Synop report summary

One day I'll have time and start making the charts, i'm already 5 months late.

Also I hadn't realized we had already reached 29c, but I wasn't there that day.

May in Malta was below average with below average sunshine, though also below average rainfall once again. The first half of the month was especially cool, but the last 10 days or so were mostly above average...

Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay Malta:

Average High: 25.1C (-0.3C)
Average Min: 18.3C (-0.2C)
Overall Mean: 21.7C (-0.3C)

Highest Max: 30.1C (28th)
Lowest Min: 14.6C (3rd)
Lowest Max: 19.3C (7th)
Highest Min: 22.0C (12th)

Rainfall: 6.7mm (73%)
Days with Rain: 8
Days with Thunder: 1

Sunshine: 291.0 Hrs (94%)

My station data alongside the official Malta Met Office data from Luqa Airport:

Yes, this past winter was the driest on record & we wont now see much (if any) rain until September... Farmers have applied for emergency EU funds to irrigate their crops as their wells have run dry & the seasonal Chadwick Lakes (which the farmers also have access to) have been bone dry all winter...

Christ, that's bad! Do you have any water restrictions over there?
I love the climate there, but it's just too dry.

Desalination is the way of the future for Mediterranean and drier climates

Yuck, that's the reason I prefer summer rain over winter. In the summer it's hotter and that's when crops grow, so summer rain is beneficial and more useful than winter rain imo.

Meanwhile here we have a rainfall surplus. Bonnie dropped over 13 inches of rain alone at Cape Hatteras

Nope, no water restrictions as pretty much all our water comes from desalination, with some taken from deep underground ground water reserves. Was watering my garden with the hose this afternoon

Well the rain that (normally) falls here during the winter is utilsed by farmers during the summer (from groundwater/wells/lake system) so no problem with things growing & most crops grow year round here anyway Summer rainfall for me is more of an annoyance that can spoil outdoor plans, the odd storm would be nice during the summer, but at least here we can guarantee that it will be sunny every day, so outdoor plans are not ruined...
