The powers of elevation and dry air in causing temperature extremes. As is not unusual in the summer months, both the hottest and coldest places in the the continental United States are in California, and only a couple hundred miles apart. An 84 f (47c) temperature differential in the same general part of a state on the same day. I'm curious, what other parts of the world regularly see 80F+ swings in the same general geographic area.
I'm sure the differential will be even higher when Death Valley really heats up.

I thought this was at the same place. I'm disappointed.
Now, that would better REALLY amazing and probably would make headlines (and break records). Honestly, can't image it would even be possible that a single place that gets 116 in the summer could also hit 32. But, it would be pretty cool.

Yeah, the plains can get 60, perhaps 70 degree temperature swings in a single day, but from 116 to freezing would be unheard of.
This is also pretty impressive:

Nowata is the home of the coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Oklahoma. A thermometer at an Oklahoma Mesonet site in Nowata recorded a low temperature of -31 °F on the morning of February 10, 2011.[9] A week later, the high temperature was 79 °F, 110 degrees higher.[10]
It happens on a daily basis in everywhere there is a very high range of altitude within relatively short distance.
For instance, Pakistan and North India surpassed 50°C recently. High places in the Himalayas must have easily hit temperatures below -10°C.

I can see some place in the Pinnacles having 105F/32F on the same day but not in June; it would have to be when the daylight and darkness hours are roughly equal so more like September with RH around 0.1 percent during the day
Yeah. Those two spots are about the same distance as Chicago, IL and Charlotte, NC.
lol, no.
