Where is that in the eastern US?

In 2012 Sparta had a combined mean maximum of 37°C+ for JJA , that's how hot it can get over there. This is too much for most people and thats why I gave it a C.

I think Orangeburg, SC fits that bill, Florence further north has palms, I know because I've been both places

Miami? But Miami is almost literally a sauna, so it doesn't count, Sparta is a million times better than that

Yeah the super cold hardy sabal palmetto is about it. No phoenix palms, livistona, washingtonia, or big fruit laden orange trees there.

There are palms in Florence, interesting that you say there aren't in Orangeburg, maybe just not on that street view. Both are on the Coastal Plain and Orangeburg is further south than Florence, I've never been INTO Orangeburg though, only seen outskirts from 95. Have been into Florence though so I can vouch for their palms

But one cannot deny how similar the two places look in November despite the fact that our Jan avg mean temp is around 16F lower than their avg Jan temp. It is not their avg Jan low of 38F that does them in, it is their dropping down into the mid teens F or lower in winter that kills off everything.

It must be a combination of cold and wet, because here in AZ, Kingman at 3,500ft is also Zone 8B and there are Washingtonia Filifera there
