In Frankfurt there were about 140 rough sleepers and 2600 homeless people in 2013. Quite a lot for only 700,000 inhabitants and things are getting worse in that regard. There is even a small shanty town where Romanian gypsies live:

Yea, though I think a lot of them are non-local; I don't know why the homeless population is do high. Eventually you start to ignore them as normal. But the charts appear to show that other big American cities are almost as high, maybe it's just more noticeable in SF?

An American journalist who lived in SE Asia as a reporter moved to San Francisco said the homelessness was one of the first things he noticed
