By-elections are freak events with low turnouts and this was in a EU-positive area near Oxford University et cetera. Probably nearly every single voter they could have got mobilized for that one, and they'd be below 20 % in a GE.
Also they are traditionally the second largest party in the rural south/south-west anyways.
That's the point I'm making - they're going to secure a lot of votes in areas of the country that voted Remain but also vote Conservative and dislike the kind of populist/reactionary nonsense Theresa May is currently employing to appease the hicks in her party.
The Sweden Democrats are wise enough to stay out of direct governance unless they could hold the premiership. Being a coalition partner is an attribute that is associated with collapses for so many parties. Remember the LibDems wherever they are now?

Once you go SD you're not going back, you just stay at home if the party ain't good enough. The Moderates would take 20 years of responsible third-world immigration policies and a change on EU policy to ever win me back.
